Test Prep

SSAT, PSAT, SAT, & ACT Test
Preparation

Students will spend a lot of time improving vocabulary acquisition, knowledge of grammar (particularly agreement rules), and reading comprehension. I focus on metacognition and understanding how to address errors in thinking. I spend time working on what students don't know, not what they already know.

One-to-One Test Preparation Programs

SSAT Preparation--Preferably starts in seventh grade but can be accomplished in the summer before eighth grade

PSAT Preparation--As much as necessary (prior to freshman or sophomore year)

We can set up a package that includes direct tutoring, texting, and consulting over Google Docs (or email). Hourly for direct tutoring is $70, but follow up via electronic communication can be negotiated.

SAT Preparation--(Sessions arranged on an hourly basis)

The best time to start to prepare is as soon as possible. This is particularly true for learning vocabulary, time management, and the best ways to choose the correct answer when down to two seemingly good choices.

Ultimate Test Prep--Long term

While vocabulary prep and test-taking tips are pretty consistent, some students do better on the ACT than they do on the SAT and vice-versa. We are happy to map out a long-term plan that's supported by tutoring and electronic (Google Docs/FaceTime/email) follow-up.

College Application Assistance - All-inclusive

Summerlin Tutors can put together a complete package for you that covers all test prep (or a link to colleges that don't require SAT/ACT at all), help with essays, assistance in selecting best-fit universities, applying for scholarships, and assurance of application completion.

Extra Sessions -

(Sessions arranged on an hourly basis)

Normal hourly sessions will be $70, but we will offer some discounts for scheduling 90 minutes or two hours at a time. Also, for Algebra I, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, and SSAT-math test prep, Summerlin Tutors employs exceptional high school tutors whose rates are $40 an hour.
